In a world with more extreme weather, how can we avoid digital blackouts in healthcare?

Climate change is here, and our digital services (a vital part of resilience during climate events) are themselves vulnerable to digital blackouts.

Transform have teamed up with Digital Net Zero Lead at NHS England, Ben Tongue, and the NHS to create a live systems map of climate risks to digital healthcare services, incorporating insight from across the complex supply chain - from healthcare teams, technology, datacentres, telecomms, maintenance services, energy and water providers.

The proof of concept demonstrates how integrated planning across the system can decrease risk to services, and how players working together proactively on interventions can protect against the worst potential failures. We're calling for contributors to our next stage, so read the piece and join the effort to enhance the model - we'd love to hear from you.

Many of our clients are keen to raise awareness of the impact of digital technology on people and planet – this session does just that, while outlining the opportunity space for digital services to help address that impact.

Moving from the opportunity space into practical advice – the session includes actions, activities and resources for any role type on day-to-day interventions that can improve environmental and social footprints, whilst delivering long-term economic benefit

The session is 60–90 mins and can be delivered online or in person, best with cohorts of up to 40 people across multidisciplinary teams, leaving room for engagement with an exercise to interact more closely with the content, sparking cross-functional discussion. If you’d like us to deliver this session tailored to your business, register your interest and we’ll be in touch.

Many of our clients are keen to go beyond simply raising awareness of digital’s impact on people and planet, keen to get into developing practical solutions around specific problem statements to improve their impact – socially, environmentally and economically.

This session is four hours of in-person engagement suited to thinkers and leaders within your business – it combines theory and practice – working in small groups with Transform’s Subject Matter Experts to ideate and develop key initiatives.

We will host these sessions quarterly for a combined cohort (previous attendees include leaders from Cabinet Office, DfE, BBC, Open University) but can also create a bespoke agenda for your business should you want to go deeper, or explore confidential use cases in a more intimate setting.

With Generative AI models leading to increased cloud carbon emissions, many organisations are facing the question – how can I invest in AI AND meet my Net Zero targets? This thought piece, by our Director of Sustainable Business Consulting, Claire Robinson, covers how businesses can best approach this with a "Net Positive" mindset – measuring the social, environmental and economic benefits of AI use cases in the short term, while supporting the green computing revolution and adopting new sustainable and renewable AI innovations in the longer term.

Have a read of the piece, contribute “AI for Good” use cases to the interactive map and if you’re keen to engage further, book a Digital Sustainability 101 session, or bring your business challenge to an interactive Sustainability Academy.

Want to know how you can improve the environmental, social and economic impact of your digital product or service?

We’ve created a short-format "hack" session where you can bring along your live (or planned) service and our sustainability experts will review and suggest sustainable interventions in an engaging and very interactive way.

We’ll bring the sustainability strategists, analysts, designers and developers together with your team to create end-to-end recommendations. This can be done in person or online and takes 90–180 minutes depending on the complexity of the service.
