Hoisting fundamental human rights with an accessible flagship policy
Strengthening the Enfield community through expert end-to-end Housing advisory services
The London Borough of Enfield has been looking, with the support of Cadence, at developing long-term housing solutions to help address the housing challenges faced by numerous families in the community.
The challenge:
The housing challenges faced by a growing number of families, who struggle to secure quality, affordable and stable housing, undermines a fundamental human right. It negatively impacts families living conditions, their health and wellbeing, and more widely weakens local communities.
An Intermediate Housing Policy allows councils to offer affordable housing to families who are not eligible for social housing and can’t afford to rent or buy in the open market. The number of families needing this support is increasing every year. Cadence are the most experienced UK advisors for the end-to-end Housing services and understand the potential challenges faced, which is why Enfield Council asked for our support.
The solution:
To support Enfield Council in shaping and implementing this flagship policy, we had to develop an accessible and attractive service for their key customers. It needed to effectively deliver the proposed benefits and be practical right through implementation.
In practice, this meant proposing eligibility criteria for families, an application process, and supporting infrastructure, to bring the Intermediate Housing Policy to life. It also needed to support a number of other stakeholders, including developers and landlords; so Enfield continues to be an attractive place to develop housing stock.
The Cadence team’s knowledge in the field and previous experience of Enfield was vital to the success of the project and ensured that we stayed on the programme. Throughout the project, I felt the team did everything possible to make my life easy, which was perfect and exactly what I wanted. The whole way through the project my input was managed so that it was focused and effective. It felt like a collaborative project and I regarded Cadence as an extension of my team. Overall, the project ran to time, delivered more than the brief and the project team were great to work with.
