Connecting the dots on data to inform action
Centralising NAPAC’s data and streamlining their systems, so they can expand support and drive positive change for survivors of abuse
The office of National Statistics reported in 2020 that 8.5 million people have experienced some form of abuse in their lives – that’s around 1 in 5 people between the ages of 18 – 74. Of that staggering amount, only 4% resulted in charges.
For NAPAC (the National Association for People Abused in Childhood) the ideal is a world where no child experiences abuse, but until then, they want to ensure that everyone affected by childhood abuse has access to support.
To help make that a reality, Transform offered a hand.
What NAPAC do:
- They provide free telephone and email support services for adult survivors of any type of child abuse
- Each year, they train thousands of professionals in trauma-informed care and support
- They conduct research and advocacy to inform policy and practice, including working with the Ministry of Justice and national policing through partnership with the Hydrant Programme
- They support a huge volume of survivors - with 90,000 supported in 2023, including 10,000 by phone and email
The support NAPAC needed:
- They needed help filing in the gaps; only 1 in 8 children who are sexually abused are known to the police, and NAPAC wants all survivors to be able to access support, regardless if they have reported the offence to the authorities
- To update their older systems
- Connecting their data; they worked with a lot of excel sheets as well as an employee handbook doc, but none of their data really spoke to each other
- Scripting capabilities for their virtual contact centre
How Transform supported NAPAC:
- We conducted AS-IS discovery and mapped the TO-BE state
- We organised free Microsoft Azure hosting credits to set up a data platform
- We organised free Google Cloud credits to cover some advertising costs and allow analytics access
- We set up a Cloud environment, data pipelines and an Analytical Data Lakehouse and then linked all online behaviours to the Lakehouse
- We created a centralised dashboard with better analytical detail to support NAPAC's advocacy, helping partners like the MOJ and policing improve abuse prevention and support survivors
“The Transform team are remarkable people. It's not just the breadth and depth of their technical knowledge and industry experience, but their insight, adaptability, and vision.”
